A renaming ceremony was held in Brooklyn on Monday (June 10) at the corner of St. James Place and Fulton Avenue, which was officially named to “Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace Way. Lil Cease, Lil Kim, Biggie’s mother Violetta Wallace, fans and other family members were present at the event.
During her speech, Lil Kim told the crowd,

“I always knew this day was gonna come. I used to dream about a street being named after Biggie, because it was only right.” After a proposal to rename the street after Biggie was shut down in 2013, it was approved last fall with local City Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo commenting on the significance of the renaming.

Cumbo explained that gentrifiers “want to erase the history, they want to put up new cafes and boutiques and push us out of our community.

That’s why this sign is important today — so that the history of this place is told to our children and our children’s children.”
