Doctors under the aegis of Nigerian Medical Association, Cross River branch, have today, taken to the government house to protest the incessant kidnapping of doctors in the state.
According to a source , the protest was as a result of the latest kidnap of Dr. Vivian Otu of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) . She was kidnapped on Friday, 28th of August,2020.
Confirming the incident, the newly elected state chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Innocent Abang said, “I was told she went for a wake keep service of one of our colleagues’ mother and was about going home. That was when she was whisked away. The incident happened around an eatery along the Marian Road.”
Although, the police are involved in ensuring that she’s released from the kidnappers’ den , the doctors say they’re tired ,because she’s the 16th doctor to be kidnapped in the state. They’ve also threatened to embark on a strike action .
